Pine-ing

Jeremy and I have been pining for the day when we get to move into our new home. And the other week we got a big delivery of pine tongue and groove flooring, so we’ve been busy installing it on our sleeping loft floor and the ceiling. We learned to space the pine boards from the walls about a 1/2 inch, to allow for movement of the wood. Then you nailĀ along the ‘tongue’ side of the board at a 45 degree angle to secure, ensuring that the nail head is flush with the wood. Then fit your next board onto the tongue of the previous one, and snug it in tight with a rubber mallet and block. Repeat all the way across, and you’ve got a lovely pine loft floor and ceiling! We’re still finishing up the tricky parts of the dormer ceiling, but we’re most of the way there. It certainly brightens up the house and I love the look of the light, swirly, knotty pine.
