Three posts for the price of one!

The wait is over!

We have been agonizing over the total weight of the house for the past few months, in-order to properly size a truck to haul the abode.  At our invitation we had a visit from Vermont DMV Enforcement to weigh the house.  The final tally as of now is 9,650lbs, this is well under the the estimates Laura and I had which is fantastic!

Action, Camera, Lights!

Mom(s) and Pop came up last weekend,  we got a good amount to the electric sorted out and hooked up.  We now have lights, ceiling fan, and working outlets in the house which is huge!  We put down the last board on the loft, we had left off two boards to make running the kitchen lights and vent easier.

Something about a box…

Bob/Dad came up today and we worked out a box to set the stove on which will incorporate with our kitchen counter and cabinets. We were a little unprepared but after a few slow starts success was made!  The masking tape was removed from the windows and cleaned, Laura has been bugging me for months to get this done so that was big. It was a beautiful summery day to work on the house.

Plumber’s Crack

We’ve been learning how plumbing works! Thanks to some online research, a helpful employee in Home Depot (or Home Despot), and a couple hours spent in the plumbing aisle – we started installing our shower/tub fixtures. This requires a bunch of PEX tubing, copper pipes, couplers, crimps, solder and blow torch, etc… It’s a lot like figuring out a puzzle! We are making progress on installing the piping for the shower and tub. Also in bathroom news, we finished putting up the cedar boards on the walls. We left the trickiest part for last, which was figuring out how to cedar around the bathroom window. We cut some funny little cedar boards to fit right around the window frame, and we found pine corner trim pieces that will fit nicely right over that. Also big thanks to our friend Charles for stopping by when we were at a tricky point, and helping cut the last cedar board (he’s got some impressive table saw skills!). With the cedar up, I painted on a couple layers of clear, whey-based finish that will penetrate the wood and protect it from molding or mildewing in its damp environment. I can’t wait to take a relaxing soak in our beautiful bathroom!

In other exciting house news, today we found out how much our house weighs! Any guesses, anyone? Start placing your bets, we’ll post the number soon!
